Getting Your Real Estate Life Together: Q&A with Shonda Draughn

Name, Location and how long have you been an Agent

Shonda Draughn, I am half way through my 6th year as an agent. Wow! Time really does fly!

How would you describe your brand?

Luxury, yet fun! I really aim to give all of my clients the same high-end experience. From first time home buyers to luxury listings, each one receives the same agent, a customized action plan, and access to all of my resources!

How do you differentiate yourself?

I try to make a transaction fun! Selling and purchasing real estate can be pretty stressful, but it doesn’t have to be! Not for the clients anyway :) . I make sure everyone knows I’m here to answer questions, provide resources, keep you on track to accomplish set goals, and always keep your best interest as my number 1 priority! Lots of laughs throughout, confetti to celebrate wins (and maybe a little wine) surely makes clients feel more comfortable when making one of the biggest financial decisions in life!

What marketing method is most effective for you and why?

Social Media for sure! Posting almost daily, whether about personal life or real estate, helps keep me top of mind for many people! I also pride myself in staying in touch with personal letters, gift drops, or a quick text message to check in with previous clients who oftentimes send me referrals!

What marketing method is least effective for you and why?

I guess I’d say cold calling- even though I haven’t done it in years. I was always so uncomfortable asking strangers if I could come over to discuss what their home might be worth. I know it works for some people but I enjoy a more personal experience.

What are your three favorite ways to start a conversation?

I like to listen! A simple yet genuine “how are you, what’s been going on?” is always good! I oftentimes will break the silence with someone I don’t know well with a “so, where are you from?!” And my favorite of all: “Tell me something good!”

How are you elevating the look and feel of your business?

My brand is starting to feel a bit more cohesive. I’ve found a groove that I enjoy and I am really coming into myself as a Realtor®! Photos, videos, closing pictures for my clients (with ATRE signs and props!), and even the way I present myself outside of work are feeling more sophisticated!

What's one piece of advice you would give a new agent?

KEEP GOING! Man, real estate can have some ups and downs- especially in the beginning when you’re really starting to build your business- but keep going! Be dedicated to it, spend a little extra time marketing yourself, networking, putting yourself out there! And don’t be shy, ask for the business! It’ll come!
